Choosing the size might seem unimportant but having a banner that looks good in all devices and browsers is crucial.
According to YouTube, the best Channel Art size is 2560px by 1440px. There are however other sizing requirements to keep in mind. These include:
- Minimum file dimensions: 2048 x 1152
- Minimum safe area for text and logos: 1546 x 423 pixels, with larger images possibly being crossed on certain devices or displays
- Maximum width: 2560 x 423 pixels, meaning that the “safe area” is always visible despite the size of the screen
- Maximum file size: 4MB (but file sizes can be smaller)

How to pick a design
The options are endless. You should choose a design that represents your brand and yourself. A clean and straightforward banner is the best for easy recognition. Using the business usual colors and logo is a simple way for the customers to recognize the brand.
If you are the face of the business, you can benefit from using a picture of you in your channel art, since it will make users connect and relate more, thus so boosting your business.
As you can see, the channel art you choose is very important, the way you portrait your business will have an impact on it. You can change your channel art to promote special events, like an upcoming webinar or an event your business is hosting. I’d recommend only doing this for major events that you really want to drive attendance to, and keeping your channel art consistent the rest of the time.
Do’s and Dont’s
You need to bear in mind that Youtube is accessible to all, and though that is good for business, it also means that there are a few practises you should keep in mind to have a strong banner, representative of your business.
– Think of all the different devices
When making a banner it’s easy to forget that it will be displayed in all sort of devices, such as desktop, tablet, mobile, etc and it needs to look good in all of them. That being said, using interesting but subtle background images is an easy way to make sure that the banner will look great on all devices. The art will take up the screen in a natural way, instead of looking like a bunch of empty space around a small rectangle of content.
– Choose a profile picture that works well with your banner
It’s important that the channel icon and the channel art don’t clash, you should also make sure that the icon is suitable and has to do with your business.
To change your channel icon, click to view your channel through the creator’s studio. When you hover your mouse over the icon, you’ll see the pencil that indicates the ability to edit it. When you click on this, you’ll be taken to the account’s Google+ profile so you can choose a new image.
-Use your banner to share other social media
You want the other social media info to be noticeable so that the users can visit you in other platforms but not to cover any crucial information or design elements in the channel art.
Luckly, we know exactly where these will be. The channel icon will show up on the upper left hand side of the banner (but not entirely tucked into the corner), and the social and website links will appear in the right hand bottom corner if you add them (which you should).Just avoid putting crucial information in those areas and it’ll be fine.
– Make a clean, simple design
The vast majority of users will see your channel only on desktop and/or mobile devices, that means that they will only see a small sliver of a rectangle. Since such a small part of the banner will show, it’s important for it not to be cluttered and/or messy. A clean and simple design is easier to do, to be recognized and overall prettier.
Take our website as an example, when you go to see the templates you find a simple layout so that the user won’t feel overwhelmed.
-Use High Quality Images
The worst thing that could happen is uploading your YouTube art and it being blurry, bad quality or just wrong sizing. To avoid this happening, always start with images that follow YouTube’s recommended sizing guidelines, which we’ve discussed in a section above. By using that exact size and not one smaller but equivalent in proportion, your image will scale well on large screens. Another way is to use high quality pictures, and you can find those on Seedtale stock photos and designs that are all extremely high quality.
Nowadays YouTube is such an important platform for businesses, big and small, the channel art you choose should stand out to users and be credible. People should be able to look at your banner and easily recognize the brand or at least be interested in knowing more about it.
